About the Contemporary Style
Did you know?
The contemporary architectural and design style is essentially the architecture of the present day. It can flux and change depending on the current design movement or on recently built structures. Trends that are at the forefront in today’s architectural design are sustainability and green building, a reinterpretation of vernacular architecture and the offshoot styles of postmodernism and deconstructivism.
Today’s definition of green building goes beyond just energy efficiency and utilizing recycled products but encompasses how buildings interact with our environment and includes a more “pervasive attitude towards social interrelationships, international interactions and resource depletion, which has inevitably generated an altered aesthetic.”1 The UN Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform defines it as meeting the needs of today without inhibiting the opportunities of future generations. Ideas around building placement, waste management and culturally connecting to the space are integral to ecological design.
